Cicero Corporate Center
Cicero, Illinois

The project requirement
Demolition of an office and warehouse building that was 100,000 square feet in size. We hired an abatement contractor to remove asbestos and chemicals that were left in the building. This was another job where we had to recycle the concrete and masonry into stone for the build out. The building was built in the 1930s and consisted of a large amount of common brick. We hired a brick salvage company to palletize the brick so that it could be sold to contractors using it in new construction.

The Break Thru Solution
Break Thru used three large excavators, a wheel loader and crawler loader to complete this project. We also had a crew of burners and a couple of skid-steer loaders on the site. We hired a sub contractor to bring in two portable crushers to process the concrete into stone for the other trades to use in their build out. We crushed 11,000 tons of concrete and masonry into CA 6 and 4 stone. The brick salvage company palletized almost 250,000 bricks to be sold on the open market in the construction of brick driveways and fire places. Recycling material is cost effective for Break Thru, the contractor building the new warehouse and good for the environment. Break Thru recycled 85% of all the materials generated on this job.
