Break Thru was contracted to demolish a select portion of a school roof structure over an Olympic size pool in Park Ridge, IL. The goal of the project was to replace the old roof structure with a new one that was installed at a higher elevation.
Professional Roof Demolition
This crew tackled the removal of a plaster ceiling, concrete topped gypsum roof deck, and a steel beam structure at Maine East High School.
Challenges and Fun Facts:
- Coordination with the structural engineer and steel subcontractor was key to develop the correct sequence of work. This was vital in order to keep the perimeter exterior walls from becoming unstable.
- An elevated working platform was installed in the entire pool facility spanning over the pool and stadium seating.
- Disposal was challenge, our foreman came up with the idea for two means of hauling off debris. One was a scaffold chut from the roof to the parking lot level. The 2nd was lowering down the debris from an opening of the working platform down to the pool deck level.
