Break Thru was contracted to demolish and remove 2 floors of architectural build out, selectively remove a large portion of the structural precast façade of the building, the interior escalators, as well as several slab openings. The overall area of this project was 145,000 square feet. Requirements to get this job done included a significant amount of preplanning with engineers and utility companies, constant communication, and coordination our field team completed the job safely completed this project without incident.
Challenges and Fun Facts:
- Saw cutting and strategic crane picks of structural precast facade in the middle of winter
- Critical blind crane picks on the south end of the building immediately adjacent to utility easement with overhead power line.
- All our skid-steers have clean Tier-4 engines. This maintained clean air for crews and building occupants working inside the building. Tier-4 engines also eliminates the lingering smell of diesel exhaust fumes during operation and after work was complete.
- While we complete projects throughout the Chicagoland area, this project location was particularly ideal for our management team as it was adjacent to our office and warehouse
