Break Thru was contracted to demolish and remove three floors of retail buildout, remove two story escalators, stair structures, elevators, and selectively remove roughly 75% of the entire exterior shell from the building of a former Lord and Taylor anchor store. As part of removing the exterior shell, Break Thru was required to remove select structural steel beams. In order to safely remove the structural steel beams, Break Thru provided shoring to support the perimeter of the building structure and tie down the roof. This work was performed smoothly without incident.
Challenges and Fun Facts:
- As we started removing the exterior façade it was discovered that some of the structural steel had been deteriorating for years. Break Thru worked with the general contractor, engineering team, and other trades to remove and correct this unforeseen structural issue safely and in a timely manner.
