Break Thru was contracted to demolish and remove warehouse office build out, several overhead crane systems, columns, and mezzanine structures. Preplanning was critical to ensure the overhead crane systems and mezzanine structure was deconstructed in a safe and controlled manner. This job was completed on time and without incident.
Challenges and Fun Facts:
- Preplanning and crew coordination were critical prior to starting work.
- The demolition torch was utilized to carefully separate the steel members to be removed from the structural columns that were to remain. Having an active fire watch and keeping the work area wet was critical to ensure no issues arose during the use of the torch.
- Utilizing a telehandler forklift to assist with the removal of large sections of steel ensured our crew members were always in a safe position relative to the removed steel.
- When removing the concrete deck from the mezzanine water was also utilized to control air borne silica to keep the job site air clean.
