Over the years Break Thru has been contracted by different clients to perform various types of pool demolition. Break Thru has demolished and removed underground pools and pools that have been suspended from upper floors. The most challenging was a project at a historic hotel downtown Chicago. This was a steel plate pool that was suspended over the hotel’s Grand Ball Room’s ceiling. Another example of a suspended pool removal was a cast in place concrete pool in an apartment building. The pool was previously abandoned and decked over. The pool needed to be removed to make room a new main entry below it. Break Thru has also removed just the ceramic tile liner from a large underground pool at a school in McHenry. On a larger scale, Break Thru has demolished a large cast in place concrete multi-lane pool from the 2nd floor of a fitness center as part of a total building project
Challenges and Fun Facts:
- Each pool removal we have performed required a different approach. Preplanning and crew coordination are key with these types of projects.
- Each different approach requires different types of equipment. From tedious removal of steel plates with grinders and demolition torches over a Grand Ball Room to utilizing mini electric skid steers or large excavators. We have the tools and talent to attack any situation.
